Glenn Bott-Mole, son of Sharon Bott, whom Adrian knew at school and had an affair with as a young man. He still believes that he is better than his peers intellectually and aspires to become a famous poet and make his fortune from his writing. Upon my second reading of this book, I was pleased that I was not any less enchanted by Adrian as when I first became acquainted with him during my freshman year of college. In his debut diary entry, on 1 January 1981, his very first words were “I will help the blind across the road”.

Susan Lillian "Sue" Townsend was a British novelist, best known as the author of the Adrian Mole series of books. My mother found them; they were hidden under a crumb of fruitcake”) and self-evident in The Weapons of Mass Destruction. It could have been very easy to choose this for rereading only to find that the advancing of time into adulthood had dulled the impression it made on me as a kid. As I started reading it became clear that It wasn't quite as funny as I remembered, it wasn't quite as clever, quite as smart, quite as insightful. The intervening book, Adrian Mole: The Wilderness Years, mixes these themes, with events such as the Gulf War seen from Adrian's naive and frustrated point of view, as well as depictions of his experiences of unemployment and public spending cutbacks, both major political issues at the time. I particularly liked the part where Adrian's dad screamed on the phone to the school: "I've lost my wife, I've been made redundant from my job and you're suspending my son from school just because he wore red socks.

He gets caught in the crossfire between Putin's army and the Wolves, a rogue team of Ukraine partisans. At the time Adrian Mole – The Weapons of Mass Destruction was published in 2004, Townsend stated it would be the last Adrian Mole volume. The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13¾ is the first book in the Adrian Mole series of comedic fiction, written by English author Sue Townsend. Over several books he develops a script for a white van serial killer comedy programme which the BBC is reluctant to produce.
